Hungry Nomad: Skilled in the Food Trade

  • Truck: Hungry Nomad
  • Location: UCLA Court of Sciences
  • Date/Time Visited: Thursday, May 5 @ ~1:00pm

The Side:

  • Za’atar Pita Chips: $2.49. Specs: Crunch pita chips baked with za’atar and served with a delightful yogurt sauce.

The Meal:

Get in there:

  • Fattoush Salad with Steak: $5.50 (salad) + ~$3.00 (steak). Specs: Romaine lettuce, cucumber, tomato, lentils and a touch of fresh mint generously dressed in a lemon vinaigrette and adorned with a few maximum-on-the-surface-area pieces sliced beef and a good amount of za’atar pita chips. Verdict? Filling, this salad surely takes the “hungry” out of Hungry Nomad. You can use your nomadic tendencies to wander the desert return to the truck/head to a vending machine in search of something with which to wash it all down. Great flavors, but when I read “steak” I envisioned cubes/chunk of meat as opposed to thin, gyro-like slices. Still tasty and the za’atar chip add another dimension. Good stuff.

    • Date/Time Visited: Monday, May 2 @ ~ 12:45pm

    The Meal:

    Get in there:

    • Frank: $5.01 + tax= $5.50. Specs: Sizable all-beef frank nestled in a slightly toasted bun, topped with grilled onions (upon request) + a hearty self-helping of saurkraut and a self-squeeze of mustard. Verdict: Good dog. A jazzy cousin of the hot dog cart variety. Bun was a bit more toasted than I would have normally preferred, but to each his own. Nice kraut. I love kraut. Nice kraut. Also: big props for letting patrons dress their own dogs (with the basics-mustard, relish, etc.) to their likings.
